A Vibrant Learning Environment

Work and School

The apprentice learns the skills of the trade through on the job training working alongside an experienced journeyman who passes on the skills that he or she has learned over the years. In addition to on the job training, the apprentice receives a balance of classroom instruction and hands on lab activities that produces competency and pride that leads to becoming a true craftsman.

Another advantage to apprenticeship is you earn while you learn. Apprentices start earning a livable wage as soon as they start working. They receive pay advancements throughout their apprenticeship based on reaching certain milestones for their hours worked and hours in the classroom.

The Dubuque Electrical Apprenticeship currently offers apprenticeships in two highly rewarding fields, Inside Wireman and Telecommunications Installer/Technician.

Apprentices receive their education at the training center in Cedar Rapids, IA. Classes are one day a week for 5 hours in the afternoon from the end of August to the end of May. The Inside Wireman program is 5 years, the Telecommunication Technician program is 3 years and all classes are taught by experienced Journeyman .
